I know what I am and I’m glad I’m a man

Latest from yours truly, DJ ST!
I feel like a man because I've been losing my voice. =) That, and because I work at IBM. And because I don't like chocolate that much. That, and I am bitter about how women are treated in this country.

BUT... this is not a blog for social commentary! None of that! We'll keep it to the music for now.

Only 1 month left here! It blows my mind.

I've been buying too many records. They have lots of stuff I can't find in the U.S. I'm not sure how I can transport everything home in the same suitcases I brought with me... I guess I need to dump like 1/2 of my clothes here or something.

Music for you! Clicky click!

one billion tastes and tunes

My fourth podcast from Tokyo, fools. Miss you all. Well almost all.
I'm too tired to write anything entertaining today. That, and I really need to keep working on reading Harry Potter before the ending leaks to me somehow. I automatically disown anyone who tells me ANYTHING about the book before I'm done.

Also, warning: during my mic break my voice is really loud (and really annoying). You might want to tune it down. Can't wait for real technology come fall... =)

Here you are!

Brought to You By The Faithful Dog, Hachikō

There's a statue of this dog, Hachiko, in front of large Shibuya train station (where i live. not the train station, but the town). It's where all the kidz meet up, since you can't really say "hey let's meet up by the train station/mcdonalds/music store/exit" since there are a million of each of those. it's nice and easy.
of course then a million people meet up at the dog statue. but i digress.

It's a heartwarming story, really. In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesamuro Ueno. During his owner's life, Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya station. Even after Ueno's death in May 1925, Hachikō returned every day to the station to wait for him, and did so for the next 11 years until his death.

So that's your bit of Japanese culture for the day.

My First Musical Offering From Shibuya!

Enkô ga tsuki wo toran to suru ga gotoshi.
Like monkeys trying to snatch the moon's reflection on water.

Allusion to a parable, said to have been related by the Buddha himself, about some monkeys who found a well under a tree, and mistook for reality the image of the moon in the water. They resolved to seize the bright apparition. One monkey suspended himself by the tail from a branch overhanging the well, a second monkey clung to the first, a third to the second, a fourth to the third, and so on,--till the long chain of bodies had almost reached the water. Suddenly the branch broke under the unaccustomed weight; and all the monkeys were drowned.
